    teapod is top teahouse!

We are a pretty modest bunch at teapod but once in a while we like to blow our own trumpet! So we thought we should tell you about a recent major survey in the Independent newspaper which names teapod as one of Britain’s top fifty teahouses.sign

We were in the rather cool sounding “urban decadence” section which seems good to us and they described us as “a modern, bright and cheery tearoom.” Judge Pei Wang highlighted our bagels, cream teas and Oolong tea for particular mention as well as the “teapod timer” – which helps customers get their brew just right. Pei is one the UK’s leading tea experts so we are pretty pleased that he had a good time when we visited and we thank him for his interest and comments.

    8 cups a day – a real tonic!

cup of teaA new report confirms what we have been saying for ages – drinking loose leaf tea carries “significant health benefits” and can help fight heart disease and boost brain power.

The new report is a major review of 47 previously published studies and confirms that drinks that contain caffeine – such as tea and coffee – provide real health benefits. In the past it has always been assumed that caffeine was potentially bad for you. Too much probably is – but moderate amounts can do you good.

It recommends people should drink up to 8 cups of tea a day – or 4 cups of coffee – to benefit from lower risk of heart attack and lower cholesterol.

teapod tea fact: Black teas contain about half the caffeine of coffee. Green and white teas contain very little caffeine. Fruit and herbal teas contain no caffeine.

England’s World Cup hopes rest on REAL tea!

It seems that England’s footballers will be turning to speciality teas to fuel them to World Cup glory in South Africa this summer.

Gone are the pork pies and fish and chips of old and in come a range of healthy foods which include Peppermint, Fruit, Earl Grey and Jasmine teas.

Of course in truth footballers have been getting healthier for years and the nutritionists who accompany them these days fully recognise the health and wellness benefits of speciality teas. But its still good to know that Wayne Rooney and the boys will be flying the flag for the real tea movement.

And hopefully they will find time to sample a great South African herbal tea – Rooibos – as they battle for success. Come on you Jasmine Boys!

    ICED TEAS ARE HERE!

Yes, the weather is getting a bit better so teapod at Tower Bridge’s iced teas and green tea smoothies are back.DSC_0314

Our house iced teas include Fruity Hibiscus, Sweet Moroccan Mint and Ritzy Rooibos but you can have any of our teas over ice if you wish – just ask at the bar!

And if you are feeling in need of a delicious and healthy boost then give our Green Tea Smoothies a try – 70 times the anti-oxidants of orange juice and a thousand times tastier. We have Vanilla Green Tea Smoothie, Banana Green Tea Smoothie and Strawberry and Banana Green Tea Smoothie.

    You know it makes sense!

It’s official – tea helps in a crisis!

The philosopher John Paul Heroux famously said: “There is no trouble so great or grave that cannot be much diminished by a nice cup of tea.” And now he’s been proved to be right!girl

A new survey shows that no less than 68 per cent of Britons respond to a crisis by……..yes, putting the kettle on! As we have always suspected, a nice cup of tea – particularly decent quality speciality tea – helps calm and soothe the troubled mind when things are not going quite to plan. Apparently more of us reach for the teapot than ring home to mum!

teapod’s soothing camomile blend is a wonderful speciality tea which helps to soothe and relax.

    it’s time to detox!

DSC_0152If you are feeling the strain after the exertions of Christmas and the New Year then teapod has the teas to help get you back on the straight and narrow – not only are they healthy but they taste absolutely fantastic as well.

Ginger and lemongrass – a tasty blend of citrus and ginger with a hint of licorice – great for cleansing the body and soul. Caffeine free.

Moroccan Mint - a blend of China green tea with peppermint leaves and fennel seeds to aid digestion.

Rarest White tea – only the most delicate leaves and buds – white teas contain the highest amounts of healthy anti-oxidants.

Classic Green tea – smooth, delicate Chun Mee tea to aid contemplation – high in anti-oxidants

And don’t forget you can always come into our store near Tower Bridge and try our Matcha powdered green tea – a real health boost with more than 100 times the anti-oxidants of normal green tea. Try it as a Matcha latte or – for the really brave – a Matcha Shot!
