teapod timer

Different speciality teas need different brewing times so we invented the teapod timer to help you get your tea just right. When you visit teapod you get your loose leaf tea as soon as the water goes in the pot. You can then use the teapod timer to get your brew just as you like it – strong, weak or in the middle!

How to brew the perfect cup:

Freshly drawn water is essential; loose leaf tea needs oxygen to infuse properly and this reduces once the water has boiled. Use around one teaspoon of tea per person. And allow the leaves enough time to brew for around four minutes for black teas, three minutes for green teas and two minutes for white teas. Herbal teas need around five minutes.

A guide to tea:

Basically, there are four types – black, green, white and oolong

  • Black teas - these are the teas most of us know; Breakfast blend, Assam, Darjeeling etc. They are the highest in caffeine and can be drunk with or without milk.
  • Green teas -  much lighter and very healthy, unsuitable for milk and lower in caffeine and higher in anti-oxidents.
  • White teas - the finest leaves and buds; again unsuitable for milk; low in caffeine and high in anti-oxidents.
  • Oolong teas - sit between green teas and black and are believed to aid diet loss by helping to raise the metabolism; again unsuitable for milk.
  • Herbal teas – plants, herbs and flowers such as camomile, mint and hibiscus. Wonderfully aromatic and totally caffeine free.
